AMU Units Observe World Blood Donor Day Through Awareness                            Programmes and Blood Donation Drive

ALIGARH, June 15: Various departments and institutions of Aligarh Muslim University observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 through awareness programmes, pledge ceremonies and a voluntary blood donation camp to promote the life-saving importance of blood donation and encourage greater public participation.

Leading the observance, the National Service Scheme (NSS), AMU, in collaboration with the Blood and Components Bank of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), organized a voluntary blood donation camp at Islah Islamic School, Bhamola, Aligarh. Around 25 donors voluntarily donated blood during the camp.

Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Officiating Coordinator, NSS, highlighted the social responsibility associated with blood donation, while Dr. Suhail Abbas, In-charge, Blood and Components Bank, supervised the medical arrangements.

Prof. Fazlur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Anatomy, JNMC, emphasized the need for maintaining adequate blood reserves for emergencies and critical medical procedures. The programme was coordinated by Dr.Sheeba Nuzhat with the support of NSS volunteers and staff.

The Department of IlmulAmraz, Faculty of Unani Medicine, organized an awareness programme highlighting the clinical and social significance of voluntary blood donation. Under the guidance of Chairman Dr.Ataullah Fahad, the event featured an informative lecture by Dr. Nida Sultana, who discussed the demand-supply gap in blood banks, donor safety protocols and common misconceptions related to blood donation.Dr. S. M. Ahmer and Dr. Mohsin Masood contributed to the scientific deliberations.

The highlight of the programme was an address by Prof. Jamal Akhtar, Director, Unani Services, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who underscored the humanitarian and life-saving value of blood donation. Participants also took a pledge to donate blood regularly and motivate others to do the same.

At the Department of Linguistics, faculty members, research scholars and non-teaching staff took a pledge to donate blood voluntarily and encourage others to participate in this noble cause. The pledge was administered by Prof. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi, Chairman of the Department, who emphasized the importance of blood donation in saving lives and strengthening community health.

Meanwhile, AMU Girls' School organized a blood donation awareness programme under the theme One Drop of Humanity: Give Blood, Save Lives. Addressing the participants, Officiating Principal Ms. Alka Agarwal highlighted the critical need for safe blood and plasma donations. Students and staff also participated in a pledge ceremony and awareness activities aimed at encouraging future generations to support blood donation initiatives.
