Expert Lecture Held at AMU’s Tibbiya College Highlights Modern Approaches to Evaluating Unani Formulations
ALIGARH, June 13: The Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (RIED) Cell, Faculty of Unani Medicine, A.K. Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University, organized an expert lecture on Research Protocol for Evaluating Unani Poly-Herbal Formulations Using Parkinson’s Disease Model to promote interdisciplinary research and innovation in Unani medicine.
Welcoming the participants, Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz, Chairperson, RIED Cell, emphasized the importance of research protocol development and interdepartmental collaboration in strengthening research activities.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Yasir Hasan Siddiqui, Department of Zoology, who explained the use of Drosophila melanogaster as an experimental model for studying Parkinson’s disease and evaluating potential therapeutic agents. He highlighted the model's cost-effectiveness, reliability and suitability for biomedical research, while encouraging students to adopt modern scientific approaches for validating traditional therapies.
In his presidential address, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Prof. S. M. Safdar Ashraf, stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research for advancing Unani medicine and appreciated students involved in the NCISM-supported Student Programme for Unani Research (SPUR).
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Zamir Ahmad, Coordinator, RIED Cell. Convened by Dr.Abiha Ahmad Khan, the event was attended by faculty members, researchers and students of the Faculty of Unani Medicine.
